A new season, a new way forward

🍂 A SEASON OF SHIFTS

Hi Reader,

As we cross into autumn with the Autumnal Equinox, nature invites us into a season of balance and change. The days and nights are equal, reminding us of the ongoing rhythm of letting go and beginning again.

The Equinox is a natural pause point — a threshold, a liminal space between light and dark, summer and winter. It’s a reminder that transitions are not just about endings, but also about the courage to stand in the in-between. In our lives and careers, we often experience similar thresholds: the room behind us or the one that we're still in no longer feels right, yet the way forward is not fully clear.

In these moments, it’s tempting to rely on decision-making alone — pro/con lists, research, weighing options. And for everyday choices, that’s all we need. But when you’re at a crossroads in your career or life, decision-making may leave you feeling empty, stuck, or going in circles. That’s when discernment matters most.

🕊️ My Story of Discernment

Years ago, I reached such a crossroads. I tried to think my way forward — lists, research, even job interviews. But clarity never came.

It wasn’t until I slowed down and began listening more deeply — to my heart, my body, and the “still small voice” within — that the path forward emerged. That moment of clarity changed the trajectory of my life and the way I now approach every big transition.

Discernment, unlike decision-making, engages the mind, body, heart, and Spirit. It’s less about efficiency and more about alignment, courage, and peace of mind.

💡 Why This Matters for You

If you’re facing uncertainty, you don’t have to push for quick answers. Discernment offers another way:

  • Slowing down
  • Listening for what aligns with your values and long-term well-being
  • Taking one courageous step at a time

I’ve written more about the difference between decision-making and discernment and what discernment provides in this month’s blog:

Welcoming Winter! Hi Reader, As December unfolds, we arrive at one of the most sacred turning points of the year: the Winter Solstice. The longest night. The deepest dark. And quietly, almost imperceptibly, the return of the light. Winter invites us into a different rhythm. The world around us slows. Nature rests. The noise softens. And we are invited to do the same -- not to disengage from life, but to listen more deeply within it. This is the season of the North on the Heart Compass: a...

The Sacred Space Between Letting Go and What’s Next Hi Reader, As we move deeper into autumn, I’m noticing how this season invites us to loosen our grip and trust what needs to fall away. In one of the community groups I’m part of, we recently discerned that it was time to let go of a long-cherished part of our shared life. It had served us well for many years — but its season had passed. Even though it was a tender decision, we could sense it was right. Now we’re in that in-between moment —...

🍂 The In-Between Season: Learning to Rest in the Pause Hi Reader, This time of year always feels like a threshold -- that tender space between what was and what’s next. The light softens, the air cools, and the pace of life begins to shift. Autumn invites us to slow down. It reminds us that not every transition is meant to be quick or clear. Between the fullness of summer and the stillness of winter, there is a quiet middle ground -- an in-between season where we are asked to trust the...
