🍂 The In-Between Season: Learning to Rest in the PauseHi Reader, This time of year always feels like a threshold -- that tender space between what was and what’s next. The light softens, the air cools, and the pace of life begins to shift. Autumn invites us to slow down. It reminds us that not every transition is meant to be quick or clear. Between the fullness of summer and the stillness of winter, there is a quiet middle ground -- an in-between season where we are asked to trust the process unfolding within and around us. In my own life and work, I’m continually reminded that this space between uncertainty and clarity and between stillness and action can be deeply sacred. It’s where discernment lives, that gentle art of listening for what’s next, without rushing the answer. The Courage to Rest in the In-BetweenIn the rhythm of nature, autumn is a pause -- a time to gather in, to reflect, and to prepare for the deeper stillness ahead. We see it in the trees releasing their leaves, in the fields after harvest, in the way the world seems to exhale before winter’s quiet. Our inner lives often follow similar patterns. Between one chapter and the next, we encounter seasons of uncertainty, moments when the old no longer fits, but the new has not yet revealed itself. Richard Rohr speaks of these times of liminal space: “Liminal space is an inner state and sometimes an outer situation where we can begin to think and act in new ways. It is where we are betwixt and between the familiar and the completely unknown.” — Richard Rohr It takes courage to rest here, to resist the pull to figure it all out or move forward too quickly. Yet this is where we can grow and deepen our own understanding and wisdom. And it is often where transformation begins. In liminal space we learn it's not about rushing to a decision; it’s about learning to wait with openness. In these in-between spaces, we practice trust and patience -- trusting that clarity will come when the time is right, and that even the pause has purpose. Where might you be invited to rest in uncertainty rather than rush toward resolution? Something is Stirring Hi Reader, Have you felt it? Not full spring. Not yet. But something shifting. And this year, early February holds a quiet convergence. There are at least four events from various spiritual traditions that happen around this time of year, but since they are all tied to sun and moon cycles in different ways their dates on our Gregorian calendar shift each year. This year they all fell with within the first two weeks of February - three of the four happened this week!...
Beneath the Surface Hi Reader, Winter looks like stillness on the surface, but beneath the ground, something essential is happening. In January, we’re often met with loud messages about fresh starts, bold goals, and decisive action. And yet, the natural world tells a different story. Winter is not a pause button so much as a shift in the kind of work being done. Roots deepen. Old matter breaks down. Nutrients gather quietly in the dark. Many of us sense this same tension within ourselves. We...
Hi Reader, Happy New Year! As the calendar turns, many people feel an immediate pull to move forward — to name intentions, make plans, or get clear about what’s next. But the beginning of a new year doesn’t actually ask us to move yet.It asks us to orient. Orientation is different from action. It’s the quiet act of finding your footing — noticing where you are, what you’re carrying, and what direction feels true before you take a step. So many accomplished, thoughtful people move quickly into...
