Savoring the Last Days of Summer

Savoring the Last Days of Summer!

Hi Reader,

But wait! It's almost Labor Day, summer's over. While it may feel that way, we do have a few weeks remaining before the Autumnal Equinox when we officially welcome Fall.

Have you noticed how the light feels different at the end of the day this time of year? The days are still warm, yet the shadows stretch a little longer and some of the plants and trees have lost their summer vibrancy. All reminders that summer won’t last forever.

Late summer always invites me to slow down, savor what’s here, and take stock before the busyness of fall leading to the holidays arrives. Whether it’s sitting on the deck with a morning cup of tea, lingering over dinner outside, watching a sunset, or simply pausing between tasks, I’m reminded that this season offers us one more chance to breathe deeply before the shift begins.

🌿 Savoring What Is, Preparing for What’s Next

This in-between space—late summer turning toward fall—mirrors many of the transitions we face in life and career. We may be standing in a season of abundance and fullness, and at the same time sensing the quiet call to prepare for change.

In career and life transitions, it’s easy to jump ahead to the next step without appreciating the wisdom and beauty of where we are right now. But late summer teaches us the value of savoring: gathering the fruits of what we’ve worked for, enjoying the richness of this season, and giving thanks before releasing what no longer serves us.

If you are discerning a new direction -- whether a career shift, retirement, or simply a change in rhythm -- consider how savoring what’s present can prepare you for what comes next. By pausing to notice and honor this moment, we create space for clarity and courage to emerge for the season ahead.

Welcoming Winter! Hi Reader, As December unfolds, we arrive at one of the most sacred turning points of the year: the Winter Solstice. The longest night. The deepest dark. And quietly, almost imperceptibly, the return of the light. Winter invites us into a different rhythm. The world around us slows. Nature rests. The noise softens. And we are invited to do the same -- not to disengage from life, but to listen more deeply within it. This is the season of the North on the Heart Compass: a...

The Sacred Space Between Letting Go and What’s Next Hi Reader, As we move deeper into autumn, I’m noticing how this season invites us to loosen our grip and trust what needs to fall away. In one of the community groups I’m part of, we recently discerned that it was time to let go of a long-cherished part of our shared life. It had served us well for many years — but its season had passed. Even though it was a tender decision, we could sense it was right. Now we’re in that in-between moment —...

🍂 The In-Between Season: Learning to Rest in the Pause Hi Reader, This time of year always feels like a threshold -- that tender space between what was and what’s next. The light softens, the air cools, and the pace of life begins to shift. Autumn invites us to slow down. It reminds us that not every transition is meant to be quick or clear. Between the fullness of summer and the stillness of winter, there is a quiet middle ground -- an in-between season where we are asked to trust the...
